Indian Cove Resort, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Day 160-162
Today we are took the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It’s a 17.6 mile, two-lane road that includes both bridges and tunnels. I am so happy it’s off season! There was no traffic and the drive over it was easy, but the tunnel lanes were narrow and a little stressful. It’s really an amazing structure. The drive to the bridge-tunnel was flat as a pancake, but took us thru pretty farmland in the DEMARVA (Delaware Maryland Virginia) area.
I get off in Virginia Beach, but still have another 45 minutes to go weaving thru local traffic to get to camp. Camp is clean and has all the services I need. They are at about 40% occupancy, mostly residents. The pool and club room are closed for the season, but they do have a dog area. I meet a guy who pretty much lives here full time thru a membership. Actually, he stays here three weeks and at his daughter’s nearby for one. That’s how these “resort” camps get around saying they don’t have residents. Anyway, he tells me he just got back from living in Europe for a few years as a professional house/pet sitter. His now ex-wife is still over there doing this, but he wanted to come back and spend time with his daughter for a while. He tells me it was a great experience and would do it again. I am taking mental notes; maybe this is something I might want to try one day.
Day 2 - Today we explored Virginia Beach, about 20 minutes away thru a maze of local traffic. Well, it’s pretty much like Ocean Beach, but bigger. The beach sand was coarse and dark; I don't really like it. I think they ship it in. The good news is that dogs are allowed on the beach in the off season. So, we spend a few minutes here and go back to the dog park at camp for more exercise before calling it a day.
