Day 129 – Monday – October 21, 2019 – Accord, NY

Easy departure though it did take longer than expected to get to my pit stop, Harwinton (near Torrington), where I lived until I was 7.

I should have just taken Route 4, but instead followed GPS which had so many turns. The drive was half commercial, mostly hilly and pretty scrappy looking. Foliage was fair. I try and pull over in front of the house I grew up in Harwinton, but there is no space. The main road, Route 4, is pretty, but now I just want to get to our destination and recalculate GPS to camp.

It's another 2 hours later but at least I was rewarded with a spectacular drive, some parts I took on the way up to Boston a few weeks ago (Route 199). There is something about crossing over state lines and almost immediately feeling something different. That’s the case with crossing over from Connecticut to New York. Right away, New York seems more elegant as you are greeted by quaint villages like Millerton and Pine Plains.

Wish I could take pictures while driving. (Maybe one day I will put a GoPro or something on the truck.) There were to many beautiful spots today along 199 – farms, older homes, gentle rolling hills and colorful foliage. Sadly, there are no pull-outs on these roads and no shoulder. You will just need to trust me and take these roads if you come to the Hudson Valley.

I am back at the same camp I stayed at a few weeks ago. After unhitching and getting Sparky some exercise, I went back to my favorite vending machine butcher Applewood Meats and stock up. Then drove around the little town of Accord; blink and you will miss it.
