Harvest Hosts, Chateau Le Gari, Marlborough, Connecticut
Day 128-129
Another gorgeous morning, so we go the beach again before heading out. Today we are staying at a winery in Connecticut, near where I grew up. My cousin Mary is coming over for a late lunch.
Thankfully, we did not have to go over the bridge again to leave Cape Cod. The bridge was so narrow; I barely had any room. For the most part, I went the Cranberry Highway (Route 6, 28, 44, 6A and 12N) which was nice in parts, just ok in others. Going thru Providence, RI was no picnic though. I should have taken the highway thru downtown but because I selected “no highway”, it took me all small roads. Drove by Brown University which was pretty, and then thru so many smaller neighborhoods that we not. About a half hour later, I finally got back on a scenic, though now, hilly route. As I have mentioned before, hills seem like fun at first in a trailer, but they are not. Either you are going too slow up a hill or too fast down. And, someone behind you is always wanting to pass. Whenever there are 3 or more cars behind me, I pull over when safe. My truck has a tow feature that automatically down shifts which is super helpful, it saves on brakes.
By the time I arrive it’s foggy and misty. It’s a small winery with a tasting room. My spot is huge! I park, but don’t un-hitch because I'm here for only one night. I meet Gari in the tasting room and pick up a bottle of wine, and some chocolate which I was super stoked about.
My cousin comes and we have a great time visiting. I haven’t seen her in years. She is also having hip surgery soon, so we talk about that too. Sparky is happy because he has found a new victim to throw the ball...which makes me happy too. It's funny to be looking at someone you are related to but don't know that well, and see so many similarities. Mary reminds me so much of my mother, it was nice.
This trip has been a wonderful way to reconnect with friends, family and even me. Every day is exciting. It has been great for Sparky too; he gets extra love and playtime with each person we connect with. I’m boondocking tonight, so I need to conserve resources. It's cold tonight, fortunately, I have plenty of propane to keep us warm.
