Cabella's Outdoor Store, Hamberg, Pennsylvania
Day 110
Glad I took the interstate because the interstate was flat and straight. Traffic was not too bad, but there was some road construction. A lot of trucks, not usually a problem for me, but when it’s raining and the trucks are whizzing by, the draft from the truck can be unnerving. You need to focus, hold on and concentrate staying in your lane. That was the most memorable part of this drive for me, the truck drafts. Once we got off the interstate, we had about 30 miles of small roads. Again, they were hilly, windy and almost all 55-mph fast, one and two-lane roads. It’s almost dusk, and I am glad we finally arrived at our stop for the night.
We are staying free in a parking lot in Hamberg, PA! Not Walmart, that would be my last resort, or Crackle Barrel, but at a Cabella’s (now owned by Bass Pro Shops). They have a huge, clean parking lot. It’s about 6pm and already there are a dozen rigs in the “RV area”. This is basic safe parking (no chairs outside or décor please). They offer free water and a dump station too, if needed. This one happens to have a “horse” exercise area. I like the store chain, they're clean, well merchandised and have museum quality exhibits inside too! Some even have cafes. When you stay for free, it’s recommended you buy something, but not required. I do need something, a sandless mat/rug, so we go shopping (oh, and they’re dog friendly too). It's raining now, and the temperature has dropped. I put on the heat, make sure all my windows are locked and make dinner. No electric to have TV tonight. Will leave early tomorrow…just a few days away from Boston, can’t wait!
